Tousled buns are my favorite! This elegant style has been a popular choice the past couple of years. I enjoy the “Effortless Look” because even though the updo loosens up throughout the night the hair still looks great! I’ve met numerous brides who show me pictures of loose/ soft updo’s and how beautiful and creative it looks. This gives me the opportunity to recreate an updo my own way! Before settling an agreement with choice of style, my suggestion to all brides is a trial. A bride and stylist must communicate before the big day! I enjoy the connection with the bride because it gives me an opportunity to know what her personality is like and it gives me an idea what will be suitable for her wedding day.
My goal is for the bride is to feel beautiful and comfortable about the way she looks. The bride in this photo knew what style she had in mind and I was pleased of the beautiful outcome of softer finishes around the updo!
Are you interested in a tousled updo? The main questions I ask all my bridal clients:
My questions/ suggestions vary depending on the brides desires. Just incase the bride is indecisive, create a Pinterest board before hand and recommend an updo of what you think will be suitable for them. I save a variety of hairstyles that catches my eye or whats been popular. Once the choice has been established, I analyze the kind of products I will be using for the bride. I have variety of products and tools in my kit that I favor for weddings! Here are my top 5 brands that I love and used for my client in this photo.
Majority of these products I purchased through CosmoProf and Sally’s Beauty Supply.
For this updo I began using 2 different dry texture sprays. The Milbon dry texture spray feels more like a dry shampoo (my opinion) when I apply it on the roots to absorb some of the natural oils. Then using Oribe dry texture spray on mid shaft to ends of the hair to add grit before curling. My client had straight hair so adding texture spray supports more definition for the updo. The curling iron I commonly use is Hot Tools 1 inch iron to create enough curl detail. After curling, I sectioned hair with the duckbill clips and started teasing and pining hair in place. What satisfies me the most is softening the twists and lifting hair as desired! What helps me align the hair in place is using Kenra‘s texturizing taffy so the hair won’t frizz while I unravel hair. After I finished pining I apply Schwarzkopf hairspray to hold the updo in place. Lastly, the bride provided a beautiful jewel piece for final touches.
At the end of my services I take pictures of the bridal party! This also helps me catch any last minute touch ups before sending them away! I always thank the bridal family and other team members that I worked with to show my appreciation. I’m very fortunate to be part of wedding parties and it helps me learn about different families and cultures that I connect with. I know how important it is to make a family member feel special on their big day and I value that very much!
